VISIBILITY

Fog, haze and low cloud on Lake Como

Visibility can deteriorate even without heavy rain. On a mountain lake, low cloud and haze can matter for both boating and hiking.

Fog and haze are not the same

Fog is cloud in contact with the ground, while haze can reduce visibility without producing the same dense local effect.

Low cloud on the slopes

A lakeside location can remain below the cloud base while mountain routes are immersed in cloud. This is particularly important for hiking and viewpoints.

Navigation

Reduced visibility changes the practical risk of boating. Check actual conditions as well as forecasts before leaving and maintain appropriate safety margins.

Safety note

Como Lake Weather is an information service. For warnings, emergencies and safety decisions always consult Civil Protection, Regione Lombardia and the competent authorities.
