RADAR

How to interpret rain radar

Radar is one of the most useful tools for understanding what is happening over the next tens of minutes, provided it is read correctly.

Radar and forecast are different

A forecast estimates the future. Radar displays echoes associated with precipitation observed in the atmosphere and is especially useful for nowcasting.

Watch the movement

The key information is not only where it is raining, but how precipitation areas move over time. Comparing successive frames helps assess whether a cell is moving towards Como, the central lake or upper Lario.

Radar limitations

Topography, distance from radar sites and precipitation characteristics can affect the display. Combine radar with forecasts, local observations and official warnings.

Safety note

Como Lake Weather is an information service. For warnings, emergencies and safety decisions always consult Civil Protection, Regione Lombardia and the competent authorities.
